A couple of weekends ago I spent a most perfect Sunday with two of my most favourite humans on our family farm. While the winter weather brings with it cold and rain, we enjoyed a warm day of sunshining perfection and mud puddles. Romeo and Persia are in perfect harmony and happiest while pottering on the farm.
Romeo loves adventures and takes himself off to find fun and mischief. Persia always heads straight for her favourite animals - any that aren't hiding from her! Actually, more precisely, we climb out of the car and Pershi is immediately surrounded by chickens and now the guinea fowl (or as I most fondly remember them as quail thingeys (which they are not) or most recently guinea pigs (which they are definitely not)...I vow to remember their names shortly) too!
Romeo is a lot more reserved and wary than Persia is, and sometimes refrains from trying some things unless he's sure he won't mind it, will like it, and can do it. Unless it's a ball game, in which he will throw himself into any with full force and enthusiasm. I'm sure we were all asked a hundred times 'who wants to play ball with me now put your hand up', 'who wants to play later put your hand up'. That goes for Beyblades too....I've become quite the keen battler I must say (even though try as I might I now CANNOT win the battle (or any games for that matter anymore)...and there is never any letting Romeo win deal either)!
Persia, on the other hand, will try anything once, including eating any new foods just to see, and is crazy in love with every and any animals that happen to stray her way. The most obliging cat of all, Lola, or Lolly Lu as was so fondly shouted in a small girly voice most of the farm visit, spent our entire visit hiding from Pershi. How do I know that for sure, you ask? Because twice I caught her sneaking/slinking out from one hiding place to another behind Persia's back! I guess being carried around under one arm and around the neck was not appealing to her this Sunday. Shame that!
with fuzzy happiness when I see my
children happy, but especially this day because I had been rather grumpy and short with them the few days prior (mostly due to a lack of sleep). It was nice to have the wide open spaces, the great and beautiful outdoors and fresh air, hot toasted cheese sandwiches and homemade vegetable soup. It was even nicer to have my children indulging with pure delight in muddy puddles, hunts for frogs and skinks, feeding the chickens and looking for eggs, quad bike rides, patting horses and greeting the young cows. Touching little (read that as gigantic) Missy puppy's wet nose was also a featured regular that day. It was nice to simply spend time with their aunts, uncles and Granny and Grandad.
I believe the fresh air and exercise has blown the cobwebs out of my being. I still feel refreshed. I suppose this partly comes from knowing Romeo and Persia have had a really wonderful day with the only restrictions being safety.
Fun was most definitely had by all!
Ed. xx
